Horse Adoption

These courses are designed for children who are interested in horses but do not own one or have access to riding facilities. Taking a horse into foster care can be a good preparation for those who are interested in getting into horseback riding.

During the course, children are assigned horses that they take care of as if they were their own. The children learn how to care for the horses and go on riding trips. They will learn to groom, saddle, and ride, as well as take part in general horse care, such as putting bedding in stalls, cleaning paddocks, and feeding.

This is part of introducing children to what it means to own a horse. Participants receive good guidance and will be instructed by our experienced staff, gain valuable insight into the world of horseback riding, and develop an important understanding that horseback riding is not just about jumping into the saddle and riding off.

If you are unsure which course your child should attend, it is a good idea to contact us, and we will figure it out together.

Please note that we may move participants between groups if necessary, both if students are too nervous and need to move to a calmer group, or if they are confident and need to be in a more advanced group. We base group placement on school year, and short introductory courses are for those in 1st and 2nd grade. Beginner courses are for those in 3rd grade.

Riding Club – Sundays at 3:00 PM

Ages 12–16 (born 2009–2013)

A course for those with extensive experience in horseback riding who are confident and fearless when handling horses. Students must be able to manage on their own, including tacking up their horse (bridling, attaching the noseband, and saddling) and be comfortable riding all gaits except the flying pace.

The course includes practical instruction as well as longer and shorter group rides around the area. Students who, in the instructor’s opinion, have sufficient experience may be given the opportunity to ride out alone or with other students without supervision. Daily stable tasks are also carried out by students as part of introducing them to everything involved in owning their own horse.

The course lasts 120 minutes and costs ISK 65,000.

Star Club – Saturdays at 4:00 PM

A course for those with very extensive experience in horseback riding who have completed the Riding Club program at Íshestar. Students must be confident and fearless when handling horses, be fully independent in tacking up (bridling, attaching the noseband, and saddling their horse), and be comfortable riding all gaits except the flying pace.

Students go on riding trips in all weather conditions and get to try different horses to build experience. They are given the opportunity to ride out in groups with other students without an instructor, allowing them to experience the freedom and independence that come with horseback riding. Daily stable tasks continue to be part of the program, helping them understand everything involved in owning a horse.

Please note that this is a revised Star Club compared to previous years. The course is now taught once a week on Saturdays; otherwise, the club remains the same.

The course lasts 120 minutes and costs ISK 65,000.
