HORSEBACK RIDING TOUR FOR EXPERIENCED RIDERS!
Experience the versatility of the Icelandic horse and go straight into exploring the Reykjanes preservation area from our stables in Hafnarfjörður. You will explore an ancient lava field, refresh at the river Kaldá and explore the “holy mountain” Helgafell as well as its surrounding inactive volcanic area together with your guide. Please note that this tour is for strong intermediate riders that are comfortable and in control of the horse at all paces. The choice of route is dependent on both season and weather and is subject to change to ensure a fun experience for everyone. At Íshestar we take pride in our personal service and limit group sizes to 20 or fewer guests per riding group to ensure an enjoyable and safe tour for all. We look forward to showing you the Icelandic horse in its natural surroundings! Riding skills: This tour is recommended for strong intermediate riders. You should be comfortable, in control at all paces and have a firm seat. Please note: Riding time is 2,5 hours. A transfer is available, for 9:00 departures pick up is at 8:00 and for 13:00 departures pick up is at 11:30.
We reccomend that you bring warm gloves and a thin hat that can fit under the riding helmet. Included in the price is that you can borrow a helmet, warm overall or rain coat and rain pants as well as rubber boots.
Maximum weight for a rider is 110kg/242lb.
Riding clothes. Riding gear (riding trousers, jackets, etc.) needs to be washed (40°C) or dry cleaned. Items which can not be washed or dry cleaned (riding boots, riding hats) need to be cleaned and disinfected at least five days prior to arriving in Iceland. The Icelandic Veterinary Authority recommends the broad-spectrum disinfectant Virkon S for disinfection. Used riding gloves, whips, saddles, bridles, chaps and other used leather gear may not be brought into the country.
Please understand that these precautions are necessary because there are no contagious animal diseases in Iceland. Horses are not vaccinated and are therefore susceptible to infectious agents from abroad. Please help us to protect Iceland’s fragile nature! We recommend booking a couple of days in advance just to make sure that we have free spaces on the day you wish to arrive.
Usually, you will be back at your hotel around an hour after the tour ends.
